Introduction – Working out El Poblado

Damn, I would not have expected to see you here. You are travelling South-America, getting to know the culture and history of Medellín and still find time to work out. For crazy fanatics like you we made a blog-post with the ins and outs of working out in El Poblado.

This section is divided into two parts. The first part is about free open-air gyms, the second part is about paid gyms.

Free Open-Air gyms

There is a free open-air gym and a field very close to Blink. It’s located just behind the Viajero hostel.

In the gym, you can find 10 machines to do workouts on. With a little creativity, you can basically do every exercise. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, crunches pullups, decline pushups and way more. You can also stretch really well by making use of the fences around the gym. In addition to that, there are cut stones lying around which you can use for curls, weighted pushups and other weighted exercises.

Next to this gym, there is a covered, outdoor court where you can play football, basketball tennis and basically all other ball sports. Oftentimes, you can find locals or tourists playing here and you can ask to join.

There is also a skatepark very close to Blink for skaters, bmx-lovers and other similar sports.

Paid day-card / membership gym

Athletic Gym

There are two gyms nearby Blink. One is called Athletic gym.They have virtually everything you need, a membership costs around 120.000 COP per month (roughly $30 or €25). You can not apply for a day-pass and if you take a membership you have to give your fingerprint. Remember, prices can vary so check out the website for yourself to be sure.

Smart fit

The other gym is called Smart Fit. This gym also contains pretty much everything you need. The good thing about this gym is that you can apply for a day-pass, this costs 25.000 COP (roughly $6 or €5) and does not require a fingerprint. Membership costs vary, depending on your needs and whether you want to workout just in one specific gym, and if you want to cancel at anytime. It also requires a fingerprint. Check the website to find what best suits you.
