Before we dive into the splendor of Plaza Botero, let’s take a moment to appreciate the artistic genius behind it all—Fernando Botero. Born in Medellín, Botero is celebrated worldwide for his unique style characterized by voluptuous figures and exaggerated proportions.
His art, often referred to as “Boterismo,” reflects a playful and satirical take on life and humanity.
As you step into Plaza Botero, you’ll be greeted by a stunning collection of 23 bronze sculptures, all created by Fernando Botero himself. These larger-than-life works of art are a blend of humor, irony, and social commentary.
Iconic Sculptures
Some of the sculptures you’ll encounter at Plaza Botero include”El Perro” (The Dog), “Hombre a Caballo” (Man on Horse). Each sculpture tells a story, challenges perceptions, and invites contemplation.

A Hub of Culture
Beyond the art, Plaza Botero is a hub of cultural activity. It’s not uncommon to find street performers, musicians, and artisans adding their creative flair to the square’s vibrant atmosphere. This dynamic space offers a glimpse into the lively spirit of Medellín.
